Grand Junction Needs Bell Ringers For the Holidays
On the threshold of the holiday season, the call is going out for Grand Junction bell ringers.
It's a familiar sight and sound during the holiday around retails stores. The ringing of bells and the famous Salvation Army kettle signifies there are people in need of a helping hand. The Red Kettle Campaign is the Salvation Army's primary fundraiser of the year. Donations given during the holiday season help fund the Salvation Army's critical programs throughout the year in Grand Junction.
Volunteer bell ringers are needed to staff 16 locations in Grand Junction, Clifton, and Fruita from November 30 until December 24. Volunteers need to be at least 18 years of age, though teens can do it if accompanied by an adult. It's also a great opportunity for groups that would like to volunteer in the community. If you're interested in being a Salvation Army bell ringer this year you can sign up on their website.
It certainly is not a difficult job, though, it can get a bit chilly when you're standing outside for prolonged periods of time in December. The main thing is to be prepared with warm clothes, thermal underwear, warm socks, and maybe a thermos filled with your favorite hot beverage.
For those that aren't volunteering to ring a bell this holiday season, I would admonish you to be as generous as possible this holiday season. When you hear those bells and see that red kettle, reach into your pockets and pull out whatever loose change you have and drop it in the kettle. From time to time as you're doing your holiday shopping, perhaps you would even slip in a few dollars rather than change. It's a small way for each of us to help our neighbors in need in the Grand Valley.
The holidays are all about giving --and it's not just the giving of gifts that counts.
