Grand Junction High School recognizes.

First, it is amazing to know that Grand Junction High School has a National Championship team in any sort of activity! What are the odds?

Now, this sign has been up for a while and we're glad that it still is.

Not sure what it's like around the state of Colorado, but where I'm from back in Wisconsin every town, big or small, has these HUGE signs as you enter city limits proclaiming State Football Champs, State Volleyball Champs, State Baseball Champs, State Hockey Champs, State Basketball Champs, etc etc. It's all about sports. That's what important. Ooh, the BIG game of Friday night, better shut the town down.

Absolutely nothing against sports, I played basketball, baseball and football all through out high school. Teammates I had are lifelong friends. Sports teach teamwork, discipline, toughness, to learn from losing and many other life lessons. Plus, they are great sources of revenue.

I was also on the All Academic Bowl team, Forensics and a Book Club. Competitions of knowledge. Not the most exciting events to attend as a spectator. No cheerleaders. (although that would have been a terrific idea!) No marching band. No half time show. No bright lights. Well heck, barely any people in the audience!

There is no doubt you should acknowledge and be proud of your High School sports teams. However, there are so many more organizations, activities and clubs that also need some love.

So, let's make time for these underdog teams.

Congrats to the GJHS Tigers Academic Team!
