Grand Junction FIRST Competition Takes LEGO to Mind-Blowing Awesomeness
LEGO, the amazing building blocks everyone seems to love has become amazingly competitive with a FIRST League Qualifier event this Saturday (November 5).
Just how competitive is this Lego builder's dream event? Well, FIRST is an acronym, 'For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology' which means this competition is all about the science and math of Lego.
The qualifying event challenges teams of fourth through eighth-grade students to use building skills, math, and science to complete a project with Lego Blocks.
Part of the project is building and programming a Lego-based Mindstorm Technology robot. The other part of the project challenges teams to address a real-world problem, specifically animal issues.
The winner of the Grand Junction competition will join other qualifying student teams in the Colorado FIRST Lego League Tournament later this year.
The Grand Junction FIRST Lego League Qualifier is being held at Central High School from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, November 5. The event is free and spectators are encouraged to attend and see Lego in a way you may have only imagined.
