9 Reasons Grand Junction is Thankful the Old Bridges are Gone

Passing over the Colorado River in 2021 is something we get to do almost daily and probably without thinking very much about it. There was a time, however, when getting across the river meant waiting for a ferry or taking your chances on an old rickety bridge that had gone on past its prime.

The Old Bridges Around Grand Junction

Long gone are the days of the old Black Bridge built back in 1891 just West of 5th street. There are still folks in town who can remember jumping off it into the river way back in the day.

Black Bridge was replaced by the old Main Street bridge, which has also since been replaced by the overpass where Grand becomes Broadway. You can see more info about some of the old bridges in our area with some of the great information that is kept on file with the Mesa County Libraries website.
