The term "Black Friday" is about to take on an all new meaning. A Grand Junction animal shelter is hosting a sale, and in this case, "Black" isn't just a catchy descriptor.

Grand Junction's Roice-Hurst Humane Society will be hosting a "Black Friday" sale on November 24. During this event, all black cats and dogs will be available for adoption at 50% off. You heard right. If the cat or dog has a black coat, you can save 50%.

What if the animal isn't completely black? Some have that little white stripe on their chest or on their nose. According to Roice-Hurst's Facebook page, they are on sale, too.

You've probably heard the rumor that black animals are less likely to get adopted from shelters. Is this true? According to vetstreet.com -

...although euthanasia numbers for black animals are at or near the top (both black and white dogs were near 19 percent; black cats were at 30 percent, with gray cats and white cats coming in just under that, at 28 percent and 26 percent, respectively), their total adoption numbers were also the highest of any color. - vetstreet.com

Personally, I adopted a black dog from Roice-Hurst Humane Society back in 2010. Best thing I ever did. As a matter of fact, here's his original photo featured on their website back in 2010.

How could I not adopt a face like that? Believe me when I say adopting a pet from Roice-Hurst is the best thing you'll ever do. Have you considered adopting a senior pet? That works, too.

This Friday, you can adopt and save 50% on certain pets. What better way to kick off the holiday season than to adopt a new family member?
