George Strait Broke His Own RodeoHouston Attendance Record
George Strait — the unofficial King of Texas — broke his own record with his appearance at RodeoHouston on Sunday (March 17).
It was Strait's first performance since 2013 at the iconic Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, held annually at NRG Stadium in Houston, and the King of Country Music had the honor of the event-closing performance. Fans came out in droves to see him — to the tune of 80,108 paid seats, which means Strait broke his own previous NRG Stadium record of 80,020 paying fans.
It was probably not a big surprise, however, given that Strait is a favorite of the event and fans who attend it — it was his 30th performance there in 22 years. The country legend is one of just five entertainers who've played for more than 1 million fans at RodeoHouston.

The 2019 appearance brought out special guests Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen, as well as Strait's young grandson, Harvey Strait, who stole the spotlight when he joined his grandfather for a live duet of "God and Country Music." Six-year-old Harvey's vocals are featured on the studio version of the song that will be available when Strait's new Honky Tonk Time Machine impacts on March 29. The icon wrote 8 of the 13 songs, including a co-write and collaboration with Willie Nelson.
Strait's RodeoHouston set kicked off his set with one of his crossover No. 1 hits, "Write This Down," then storming into hit after hit of his 30 studio-album career.
