Flags flew at half-staff across Colorado yesterday in honor of a Parker Marine.

I received many phone calls yesterday regarding why flags were at half-staff and I wasn't able to tell them why except that it's a symbol of respect, mourning, or distress.

But according to the AP this morning flags were flying at half-staff across Colorado in honor of a Parker Marine killed earlier this month in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon says that 23-year-old Cpl. David Sonka of Parker and another Marine were killed May 4 during combat operations. A funeral for Sonka was held yesterday in Littleton and he was buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
