You may find it difficult this holiday season to avoid the worst holiday foods that cause bad breath. If that's the case, you better plan to take the necessary measures to compensate for the effects of these bad boy foods.Dr. Harold Katz, dentist to the stars, says a good place to start to ensure fresh smelling breath this holiday season is by brushing and flossing on a daily basis. But, that is only the start. Katz says watching what you eat can also help ensure you are not contaminate the air of those you come in contact with.

According to Dr. Katz, here's the five worst holiday foods that cause bad breath, and some of them might surprise you.

5) Candy Canes
4)Cranberry Sauce
3)Candied Yams
2)Mashed Potatoes (if they have butter and sour cream)
1)Egg Nog (The WORST holiday food for your breath!)

For me, avoiding 3 of the five will be a piece cake, as I am not one to go anywhere near yams, cranberries, or egg nog. I might enjoy an occasional candy cane, and I'm pretty sure my mashed potatoes will be lathered in butter. Consequently, I plan to never be far from a fresh piece of spearmint gum - unless I discover that it, too, causes gingivitis.
