The sole winner of a $590 million Powerball jackpot from the May 18th drawing finally came forward yesterday (June 5th), 84-year-old Gloria C. MacKenzie, who lives in the town of Zephyrhillis, Florida, where the ticket was sold.

MacKenzie took her prize in a lump sum of just over $370 million, and after federal taxes will take home $270 million. MacKenzie didn't speak to reporters as she, her son and family friends left lottery headquarters yesterday, after having arrived with two attorneys as well.

In a statement read by lottery officials, MacKenzie said she bought the ticket at a Publix supermarket after another buyer let her go ahead in line.

She also asked for privacy, with the statement saying, "We hope that everyone would give us the opportunity to maintain our privacy for our family's benefit."

The $590 million jackpot was the second-largest in history, behind a $656 million Mega Millions prize in March 2012. However, the jackpot was split among three winning tickets.
