May Day used to be the occasion where little school kids made quaint little baskets and then left them on their neighbors doorsteps. Do kids still do this? What other ways does one celebrate May Day, or for that matter, does anyone observe the date anymore?

In years past, you used to make a little basket, fill it with flowers, set it on your neighbor's doorstep, then ring the doorbell and run away. That was pretty much it.

As it turns out, there are several "celebrations" associated with the date.

May 1 was chosen by Socialists and Communists of the Second International as the official date for International Worker's Day.
