The Grand Valley has seen a couple foggy days recently, and I've seen many people driving without their lights on. Do you have to turn on your headlights?

I was always taught to turn on your headlights while driving in fog. It doesn't help you see any better -- it actually makes it more difficult to see at night -- rather, it's a safety issue.

In heavy fog, driving without your lights makes it difficult for other drivers to see your car, which could lead to an accident. Nobody wants that headache on your way to work.

While it's not a law, it should be. It only makes sense for the safety of you and your loved ones.

On your way into work today, make sure you have your headlights on, take your time, and look for pedestrians -- they like to lurk in the shadows.
