Colorado is no stranger to price increases from the United States Postal Service. The cost of a first-class stamp has gone up 36% since 2019 when it cost just fifty cents. Today the price has reached seventy-three cents.

While the price of stamps has not increased in 2025 (yet), USPS did raise the prices on shipping services once already. They have also announced some big changes to first-class mail services that will impact those of us in the Centennial State.

As of April 1st, USPS will be changing the speed at which some of your mail may arrive. Service standard adjustments are coming for first-class mail, periodicals, marketing mail, and package service.

While first-class mail will continue to arrive between the current one to five-day business range, 14% of first-class mail will be delivered at a faster standard, and 11% will be delivered at a slower standard.

Postal workers will switch to a five-digit add-on following your zip code (currently a three-digit add-on) to increase delivery accuracy. Newsweek.com says the changes to first-class mail will save the postal service "$36 billion over the next decade."

2025 Shipping Services

While the price of mailing services is forecast to change again in July of 2025, USPS quietly raised the price of select shipping services back in January.

  • Priority Mail & Priority Mail Express: Prices increased by 3.2% on January 19th.
  • USPS Ground Advantage: Prices increased by 3.9% on January 19th.
  • Parcel Select: Prices increased by 9.2% on January 19th.

According to Reuters.com, USPS says all these price increases are part of a 10-year restructuring plan that aims to stop $160 billion in predicted losses. The plan doesn't seem to be working, does it? It's probably time to send the Doge team over to USPS.
