Colorado Parks and Wildlife Hosts Once in a Lifetime Youth Turkey Hunt
If your child is interested in having the opportunity to participate in a guided, high quality spring turkey hunt on private land this is for you!
Thanks to the generous support of local private landowners, Colorado Parks and Wildlife's Hunter Outreach Program has three opportunities for youth to join in this amazing opportunity April 26th to 28th near Meeker.
Previous hunting experience is not required and all youth hunters are encouraged to apply. Colorado Parks and Wildlife even provides your shotguns, ammunition, blinds and calls all you have to provide is camouflage, lodging and food! But remember; if you're chosen you and a parent/guardian must attend a pre-hunt orientation at the Colorado Parks and Wildlife' Meeker office from 3-5 p.m. on April 26th.
If your under the age of 18 you can apply by letter with; the contact information for your parent or guardian, the hunter's name, address, phone number, their Hunter Education card number and an essay of 500 words or less.
I know your next question is what should the essay include? Well Bailey Franklin, hunt organizer and district wildlife manager in Meeker says,
In the youths own words, the essay should express why the youth believes hunting is important for wildlife, in addition, the letter should show why they should be selected over other applicants to participate in this special spring turkey hunt. Each youth hunter and their parents or guardian will be personally guided by one of our officers. This makes this private land turkey hunt especially memorable and safe for everyone involved."
Mail your letter by April 15 to:
DWM Bailey Franklin, PO Box 1181, Meeker, CO 81641.
The three youth chosen to participate in the turkey hunt will be notified by April 20.
