Colorado Man Guilty of Murdering Three Family Members
The Colorado Man Convicted of Murder and His Victims
The man who was just convicted of murder is 62-year-old Bustaman Kartabrata of Denver. His victims have been identified as Joseph McDaniels, Kartabrata's stepson, Althea McDaniels, Kartabrata's stepson's wife, and Christine McDaniels, Kartabrata's 11-year-old step-granddaughter.
All three victims were said to have been shot and killed by Bustaman.
The Incident Leading to the Colorado Man's Murder Conviction
The incident that led to Kartabrata's murder conviction occurred on May 23rd, 2019 at the McDaniels' residence in the Bear Valley neighborhood of Denver, Colorado.
The McDaniels family was preparing to move from their Colorado home to Mississippi when Kartabrata shot and killed all three now-deceased members of the family in their home. Kartabrata's wife at the time, Joseph McDaniels' mother, was sitting in her vehicle outside the residence as this all took place.
The McDaniels' 9-year-old son, Kartabrata's step-grandson, was luckily able to flee the scene unharmed and found his way into a neighbor's house where he urged the neighbors to call the police.
The Aftermath of the Colorado Shooting
Following the three murders, police located Kartabrata at his home where he was found with multiple suitcases packed along with his and his wife's passports and $30,000 in cash, a scene that led police to believe that he was planning on fleeing after committing the grisly murders.
Finally, nearly three years after the incident took place, Kartabrata was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder as well as menacing as he allegedly threatened his 9-year-old prior to him fleeing the home.
What's Next For the Colorado Murderer?
Because Colorado law carries a mandatory life sentence for first-degree murder, it's more than likely that Kartabrata will be spending the rest of his life behind bars for his crimes. Kartabrata will be sentenced officially on Friday, May 6th, 2022.
