See the Fresh Face Of Western Colorado’s Newest High School

Summer break for the Tigers of Grand Junction High School began on May 22nd. On Thursday, August 8th, students will return to new surroundings now that construction of the new high school is complete, following a ribbon cutting held on August 3rd.

Students and teachers spent 68 years inside the high school opened in 1956 and following the approval of a 115 million dollar bond in 2021, a new chapter is about to start as the 2024-2025 school year begins at 1400 N. 5th Street.

Grand Junction High School Students Return Thursday

According to RMPBS, Construction of the new school began in 2022, and was completed for around 144 million dollars including tax-payer funding and grants. According to News 11, the Tiger's senior class president Dermot Lynch, and fellow students had the honor of cutting the ribbon for the high school, a moment that will be a part of Grand Junction history for another 68 years or more.

No Cell Phone During Class Hours

Getting used to a new school building may not be the biggest adjustment that students will need to make during the upcoming school year. A new policy from the D 51 School Board will not allow students to have smartphones or tablets with them during class hours. Learn more about the new policy with the link below.

Grand Junction's New Bronze Tiger

The bronze tiger in the photo above sits outside the Grand Junction High School cafeteria entrance and can be seen from the main parking area along 5th Street. This tiger replaces the one painted on the bricks of the old school building which overlooked the school grounds.
