The website TheBump.com recently took readers on a tour through all 50 states to show the name restrictions people have to deal with all around the country.

In Colorado, there are no limits on the length of a name, but you need to be able to spell it using a standard keyboard, so no graphic symbols or foreign characters are allowed.

In the state of Colorado, there are records statutes that govern the process of recording names on birth certificates. Colorado Revised Statutes Title 25 does not necessarily "ban" names, it keeps everyone in line according to the same standards.

Rules for Baby Names In Neighboring States

What about Colorado's neighboring states? Here are a few of the unique restrictions you'll find if you have to name a baby in a state next door.

New Mexico: No diacritical marks or special characters are allowed, and Baby Boy, Baby Girl, Male, and Female are banned names.
Wyoming: The official record cannot reflect foreign characters (no Björn).
Utah: The name is not allowed any foreign characters not found on a keyboard.
Nebraska: No name implying obscene words or abbreviations.
Kansas: Kansas allows accent marks but no foreign characters. The state requires a last name for all babies.

According to USbirthcertificates.com, nine names are banned from being issued as part of a birth certificate in any state, including Colorado. They are: Jesus Christ, Adolf Hitler, Harry 3, Nutella, Ирина, Nelly’s, Chloé, F!nn, Aña, @. Some states also include the name Santa Claus.
