A Grand Junction area woman is working to raise enough money to send American flags to our soldiers overseas.

Along with the Palisade American Legion Auxiliary Unit #50, Julie Dominguez-Aysse is asking the community to help by either donating a flag or raising money.  The goal is 102 flags which are roughly $1,400.

Dominguez-Allyes' son served in the military and through him, she knows a sergeant now serving. Between the two of them, they came up with this idea. The flags will be sent to a group of military members currently deployed in Iraq. All 102 flags would then be flown over there, then distributed to those soldiers as they (hopefully soon) all return home to the U.S.

If you would like to help out by donating a flag or donating money, please mail or drop off your donation to the Palisade American Legion Auxiliary Unit #50 located at P.O. Box #36 Palisade, Colo. 81526. Flags must be 3 feet by 5 feet.

The deadline to help is August 15.
