CMU Student Dies From Coronavirus
21-year-old Cody Lyster, former Colorado Mesa University student has, unfortunately, passed away from complications with the Coronavirus (COVID-19.) Lyster was a member of the University's baseball team and was studying criminal justice with hopes of pursuing a career in the field following graduation.
It should be noted that while tragic to the entire community, Lyster did not contract the virus in Grand Junction.
Colorado Mesa University, like other universities in the state, moved to online classes following the school's spring break last month.
Little has been made public as to where Lyster contracted the virus, but it is a scary reminder that while previously known to predominately affect the elderly and individuals with lung problems, that COVID-19 is just as dangerous for 21-year-old college athletes.
Other Western Slope towns have taken much more precaution recently, with Gunnison discouraging visitors from out of town and Glenwood Springs requiring facemasks while performing essential tasks, and perhaps this tragic news will require Mesa County residents to follow suit.
Facemasks are becoming popular nationwide, and if you've driven around Grand Junction lately, you've probably seen people walking down the street wearing them.
Cody Lyster is remembered fondly by his friends and teammates, and this is definitely a hard hit to the entire community of Grand Junction.
