CDOT Still Short On Drivers
Colorado Department of Transportation looks to fill 100 positions.
Last week I shared the open positions Colorado Department of Transportation was trying to fill. Now, a week later CDOT still has 100 open snowplow driver positions. The good news too is that nearly half of those jobs are here on the Western Slope.
This year's predicted heavier snowfall amounts and improved economy are what's creating these opportunities. Keeping the I-70 corridor open is vital to keeping goods moving and during the winter it takes snowplow drivers, and lots of them, to make that happen. When the mountains need help, local and regional drivers fill the need.
“In years past, we've struggled a little bit, (but) this year we're struggling a little bit more,” said CDOT representative Karl Lehmann. "The economy is just so much stronger this year, so we're trying to create new incentives to try to recruit people.”
If you may recall these positions come with an increase in pay from last year. CDOT upped the hourly rate for temporary workers from $19 an hour to $22 an hour. They are looking to rehire retirees as well offering them their ending rate of pay, or $25 an hour. To look at all the jobs currently available just click HERE.
