An attack by carnivorous fish  spoiled Christmas day for about 70 swimmers in Argentina. Seven children lost parts of their fingers and toes.

With temperatures hovering around 10 degrees in Rosario, the Parana River was filled with swimmers trying to escape the heat. Suddenly, the bathers started complaining of bite marks on their hands and feet. The bites were blamed on palometas, a type of piranha with big, sharp teeth.

The beaches were closed, but because of the heat, swimmers were back in the water within a half hour.

We certainly understand the need to be cool, but not at the risk of losing a toe or two.
