A man from Aurora and a police officer who heroically put his life on the line are dead after being involved in a recent wrong-way crash on a Florida freeway.

According to KDVR, 25-year-old Josh Montague had just moved to the Tampa, Florida area the day before. His former partner said Montague was trying to get a fresh start with a new job and a new location. But Montague was driving the wrong way on Interstate 275 when calls to dispatch came in about a car driving the wrong way and weaving in and out of traffic.

The incident ultimately took his life and the life of Jesse Madsen, a police officer who heroically drove his car in front of Josh's to save the lives of others.

A true hero indeed, Madsen was a decorated former Marine and a police officer in the Tampa area for over 16 years. He was also a 7-time recipient of the Life Saving Award and leaves behind 3 kids.

Investigators are trying to figure out, but have yet to determine, how Montague ended up on the freeway driving in the wrong direction. He leaves behind a 3-year-old daughter.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of all involved.
