Arrests Made In Grand Junction Morning Fires
The Grand Junction Police Department reports two arrests have been made in connection with several fires early this morning (Sunday, July 2).
A van was first reported in flames in the parking lot of the North Avenue Walmart around 3:30 a.m. There was an occupant asleep inside. He was able to escape with minor injuries.
Several other calls were taken concerning other vehicles on North Avenue. Finally, a set of wooden steps at an apartment building located in the 1300 Block of 25th Street was set on fire.
Through eyewitness accounts and surveillance tapes, the Grand Junction Police were able to identify and apprehend two young males involved.
They have been charged with four counts of 2nd-Degree Arson, one count of 2nd-Degree Assault, and one count of attempted 1st-Degree Assault. The suspects, 17 and 18 years old, were turned over to the Department of Youth Corrections and the Mesa County Jail.
