Adopt a 2020 Western Slope Senior Online

Students are seriously bummed that they will be missing out on a normal graduation ceremony this year, and being able to walk across the stage and get recognized for their accomplishments. And their parents are feeling bad for them, after working so hard it's really tough to not be able to celebrate like all of the classes that have graduated before you.

That's why I thought it was a fantastic idea when I saw that someone created an Adopt a 2020 Senior WESTERN SLOPE page on Facebook.

Before you're allowed in the group you have to agree to follow these rules:

1. Be Kind and Courteous - We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required.
2. No Promotions or Spam - Give more than you take to this group. Self-promotion, spam, and irrelevant links aren't allowed.
3. No Hate Speech or Bullying - Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things like race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender, or identity will not be tolerated.
4. Selling - Please contact the admin before posting any items for sale.
5. Respect Everyone's Privacy - Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in the group should stay in the group.

You will also be asked if you are willing to "adopt" a senior or if you are a senior attempting to be "adopted". After completing these questions you will be approved.

At this point, you will be added to the group and you will see lots of students who have been adopted and a few still waiting to be adopted.

When you "adopt a senior" you agree to pledge a letter, card, gift, gift card, snacks, anything to let them know we are rooting for them.

Each senior (or senior's parents) will be able to post about themselves including the city they live and the school they go to. Then each person who wants to adopt that senior will say something in the comment section of that kid's photo and make arrangements to drop off goodies for that senior. A senior can be adopted by multiple people, the more the merrier.

There is even a section for all kids who have not been "adopted" online yet.

This is such a nice thing to do for some kids who have worked really hard, and now won't be able to have a normal graduation ceremony. If you aren't in a position to help out a senior right now, maybe you can share these details so others you know can help out.
