Some people really know how to get into the holiday spirit. So much so, they end up setting a world record. Today, Friday, December 12, is "Gingerbread House Day," and here are a few enthusiasts who've taken it to an all new level.

Volunteers in Texas set the world record last year when they built a 22-foot high gingerbread house using a thousand pounds of butters, sugar, eggs, flour, and assorted other ingredients. The project raised funds for St. Joseph's Hospital.

While others don't go to those extremes, many still take the art of gingerbread house making very seriously.

Make plans to celebrate "Gingerbread House Day." It only rolls around once a year. Please keep in mind, it's about spending quality time with friends and family, not setting world records. A small four sided structure will be more than adequate.
