One of the latest events to be affected by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a Colorado staple that brings thousands just west of the tiny town of Larkspur, the Colorado Renaissance Festival.

It has just been announced that the festival, which normally takes place every weekend in June and July, has been officially canceled for 2020.

The Colorado Renaissance Festival released this statement today:

"We have been hopeful that circumstances would improve so that we could operate safely, however due to guidelines and restrictions put in place by the state of Colorado, the County Health department, and for the safety of all involved and the community we feel this is in the best interest of everyone."

I have fond memories of the Colorado Renaissance Festival, making trips with my family to basically travel to another time period, and although I've only been to the Colorado festival, I can attest that people go all out for it.

Attendees and especially those working the festival are often dressed in Renaissance garb, staying in character the entire time. There are rides, food which of course includes giant turkey legs, and although their names aren't consistent with the period, the raunchy comedy stylings of Puke and Snot.

While this is sad news, I always like to look at the bright side of things whenever possible, and the cancellation of the Colorado Renaissance Festival also means that the drive from Castle Rock to Monument on I-25 will be free of the notorious Renaissance Festival traffic.

The organizers are hopeful that the festival will return in June of 2021.
