A 13-year-old girl did what a lot of us do. She fell asleep with her smartphone under her pillow. She's lucky she didn't die.

I think we've all accidentally fallen asleep with our smartphones somewhere in our bed or under our pillow. This 13-year-old was lucky she woke up to the smell of burning plastic under her pillow. Her Samsung Galaxy S4 had caught fire sometime during the night.

Her dad thinks the phone got hot, causing the battery to swell and catch fire. The battery in her phone happened to be a replacement battery and not an original Samsung part.

Samsung does advise against covering your phone with bedding or any material could reduce airflow and possibly start a fire.

I think we can all agree that it's best to leave our smartphone on the night stand if at all possible.
