The Veteran’s Art Center, located at 12th and Ute in Grand Junction, has a wonderful program for our veterans in need of healing organized by Operation Revamp, Inc.  “Helping Vets Heal” is their mission statement, but it is so much more than that.  This is a call to local Veterans, Active Military and Military family members who are interested in healing with the arts.

This completely free program includes open studios for woodworking, stained glass, fiber arts, a darkroom, ceramics, sculpture, multi-discipline arts, printmaking, and music.  Members are able to work on what they want when they want.  Additionally, studios are fully stocked and many additional arts and craft supplies, paints, fabrics, model kits, frames and mats, etc. are available.

Along with supplies, equipment is also at the ready.  These include wood lathes, saws, planers, and kilns, pottery wheels, weaving looms, printing presses, hand tools, leather tools, enlargers, lapidary tools, sewing machines, airbrushes, glass saws and so much more!

If classes or workshops are on your to-do list, consider woodcarving, leather tooling, painting, airbrushing, photography, alcohol ink, crocheting, Zentangle, jewelry making, creative writing, music and Art for Art’s Sake with a different project each week.  Instructors are available on-site daily.  There are other classes available with more information on their website listed below.

If Healing Arts are what you need, Operation Revamp Inc. offers community acupuncture twice monthly as well as yoga, massage, meditation and reflexology.  Animal therapy is another service provided by two dogs and a cat to lavish love upon.  Additionally, an art gallery, art store, bulletin board, newsletter, on-site resource center with info sheets and library are available to members.

If you are in need of a meeting room, one is available with an overhead projector and 90 inch screen.  How about a community room with TV (VCR, DVD HDMI, and ROKU), coffee pot, fridge, freezer, popcorn machine, vending machine and food pantry for snacks, meals and socializing?  Holiday meals are served as well on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

ORIVAC Veterans Service Officer and American Legion officers are on-site for your convenience. For members, a monthly Pot Luck Social happens every 2nd Wednesday at 5 p.m. and a Monthly Meeting the 2nd Wednesday at 6 p.m.

More information is available at their website, their FaceBook page, or by visiting the Veterans Art Center.
