I found today's recipe in my Great Grand Mother-Edith Adams recipe box over the weekend and thought we'd try it out! Sounds weird but lucky us it turned out excellent!

If you missed one of the great recipes we've featured, don't worry! You can find them all here:

Today's Tip-Take Your Oven’s Temperature: Ovens lie. Mine may say 350°, but things were not cooking properly even when I followed the baking time, I figured it was opporator error but apparently after a while, ovens can lose accuracy and run up to 25°'s too hot or cool. To find out if your is working place an OVEN-SAFE (very important) thermometer on the middle rack and crank up the heat to 300°and check the temperature!

Crouton Casserole

  • (8oz) Cream Cheese-cubed
  • 1 Cup Your Choice of Shredded Cheese
  • 1 (3oz) bags real bacon bits - recipe called for tuna, you can also use crab, salmon, ham, etc.
  • Onion Powder - recipe called for a real onion
  • Celery Flakes - recipe called for real celery
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 1/2 Cups of Croutons
  • 9" Pie Crust - (I didn't have one-so I left this out)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°
  2. Combine first 3 ingredients in large bowl, then season with onion and celery to taste- The cream cheese was hard to mix even cubed, so after I had all the ingredients combined I zapped it in the microwave for a minute to soften it all up and make it easier to mix.
  3. Place pie crust in 9" Pie Pan
  4. Spread cheese mixture in pie crust
  5. Combined beaten eggs with croutons and pour on top
  6. Sprinkle with cheese
  7. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes

Hope you enjoy it as much as my family and I have! If you've got one you think we'd like submit it here for your chance to win a great prize for your kitchen!
