The next phase of the Horizon Drive District's corridor improvement project is in the development stages. It appears three new features will make their way to a section of Horizon Drive with a history of tragedies.

According to the Horizon Drive District newsletter, a 300-foot section of Horizon Drive north of G Road has been the site of three pedestrian fatalities between the years 2010 and 2015. All fatalities took place between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

According to the newsletter, the Horizon Drive District approached the Grand Junction City Council with a plan involving the construction of three crosswalks. These features would include flashing yellow lights and a small center island for pedestrians. The plan already received a hazard elimination grant from CDOT.

The proposed crosswalks would be located in the vicinity of Enzo's restaurant, the Horizon building at 715 Horizon Drive, and near Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers.

Construction of the crosswalks is set to begin in October of this year.
