Mesa County's unemployment rate for September 2014 dropped to 4.5%, reaching its lowest level since November 2008. At 4.5%, Mesa County's unemployment rate is getting very close the the state average of 4.0%.

According to the Mesa County Workforce Center, an overlap between Summer seasonal hiring and holiday hiring contributed to the decline in unemployment.

KKCO 11 News reports the number of people filing for unemployment in September was also down. New filings for unemployment in September fell to 174, the fewest in six years.

Miller adds that Mesa County is still feeling effects from the recession, with labor statistics trailing behind unemployment's decline.
