The world is saddened by the death of "Gilligan's Island" star Russell Johnson. According to an interview in Starlog Magazine, Johnson had wanted to be a part of the cast of Star Trek during its original run in the late 1960's. Had Johnson been cast as a regular on Star Trek, what role would you have liked to see him cast in?

Prior to Gilligan's Island, Johnson had starred in several Science Fiction oriented programs including "The Outer Limits" and "The Twilight Zone," as well as futuristic movies like "This Island Earth."

Johnson had the looks and charisma to pull off a convincing performance as James T. Kirk. He certainly possessed an aura of intelligence and dignity which would have made him an excellent candidate for the role of Dr. McCoy.

It goes without saying he was more that qualified to star in almost any of the guest roles over the course of the series.

For the purposes of today, let us focus on the principal roles, and the recurring characters.
