Pork and Hops is upon us, and here are a few extra tips to make this a perfect event to wrap up the season. Follow these suggestions, and you'll have a great time while remaining comfy, hydrated, and free of sunburn.

Please remember, this is the Pork and Hops, with "Colorado" being a very important factor to consider. This time of year, daytime temperatures can be in the 90's, with nighttime temps in the 50's.

Another factor to consider is hydration. Yes, beer contains water, but you know good and well that doesn't count. Enjoy some ice cold Bud and Bud Light, but counter those with some H2O. A one-to-one ratio is reasonable.

    Turn Before You Burn

    Bring Your Sunscreen

Temperatures for this Friday and Saturday include highs in the mid 80's and lows in the mid 50's. Should you find yourself in the sun from 4:00 when gates open until the sun sets around 8:00ish, sunscreen might be in order.

    Plan Ahead for the Bathroom

Don't wait until it's too late

The formula breaks down like this: Drinking large amounts of beer results in large amounts of winky. The math is simple. If you drink a bunch of beer, sooner or later you'll have to tinkle. Porta-potties abound at Pork and Hops, but when you get a pre-concert rush, you might find you'll have to wait your turn. Plan ahead.

Take a look at left. Keyes, proudly wearing his Cheesehead hat, forgot to plan accordingly. Now all the restrooms are occupied, and he's about to start hopping up and down on one foot.

    Bring a Jacket

This is Grand Junction, and temperatures can and will change without warning. In past years, by the time the main act hits the stage at night, temperatures have dropped to an almost chilly level. Nighttime temps this Friday and Saturday will be around 57 degrees.

    Plan Where to Sit

    Find the right spot

Live music enthusiasts will tell you that from an acoustic standpoint, the best place to sit is center of house, or in this case, center of park. Putting some distance between you and the stage allows sound waves to develop. Then again, maybe you want to be front of stage. Think ahead as to where you want to be and make plans to get there early enough to reserve your space. Bring your own chairs, and find that perfect spot.
