Quick, simple and inexpensive ideas for a last minute staycation. Not much time for a final, end of Summer fandango (yup, we used the word fandango), right? Well, that depends on how you look at it.

Obviously, the Grand Junction area has more than enough places and activities to keep us all busy. We know the mesas, trails, campgrounds, Colorado river, National Monument, canyons, wineries and so on, but an article by Emily Goldman lists some other ideas that are closer than you think.

  • Throw a themed house party for family, friends and neighbors. You can go tropical, dress up, dress down or even a costume party.
  • Take a class. Learn something new. CMU has online classes to choose from. It's so much easier than having to be in a classroom at a specific day and time.
  • Have a picnic in your closest park. To make it seem new, try sitting in an area you never have before. It's all about the view.
  • Step away from technology! Too many of us have become tethered to our phones. Relax the brain and go 24 hours without using it.

If you have kids, when school starts you know there will be endless running around, picking up, dropping off, soccer games, football games, volleyball matches, school committee meetings and on and on.

Use these ideas for a quick reset of your soul.
