Maybe we could create our own Olympics right here in the Grand Junction area.

Since, it doesn't look like our great state will be hosting an official Olympic event anytime soon, maybe we could create our own here in the Grand Junction area. But, we are going to need some events that are unique to this area.

We were shocked to find that Colorado is the only state to ever turn down the hosting the Olympics! In 1972, the Centennial State stunned the world when Denverites and fellow Coloradans made the statement that they did not want 1976 Winter Olympics. In a landmark vote on November 7th 1972, the voters spoke loudly when a 62% majority voted that they were unwilling to host the event because of the cost, pollution and population boom it would have on the City of Denver and the State of Colorado.

Not only that, have you ever seen the 'ruins' of places that have held previous Olympics? It's sad. These tremendous structures are built for only that one purpose and then left to basically rot.

Now, that's not to say that residents despise the Olympics. Far from that. In fact, since the Winter Games began in 1924, there have been 133 Coloradans on the United States Team. Steamboat Springs has produced 37 team members, more than any other town in North America!

Since, it doesn't look like our great state will be hosting an official Olympic event anytime soon, maybe we could create our own here in the Grand Junction area. But, we are going to need some events that are unique to this area.

What about 'The Palisade Peach Put,' sort of like the regular Shot Put only with fruit.

'Olathe Corn Shucking'

'Pigeon Skeet'

'The I-70 Loop'

'Grape Stomping' that of course would lead to 'Wine Chugging'

'The Country Jam Crawl' which some of you do EVERY year instead of every 4 years.

What other events can we include in our Grand Junction Olympics?

Opening Ceremonies will be held at Stocker Stadium and shall start promptly at 4:20.
