Earlier it was reported that this Grand Junction business may stay open. Not anymore.

In the latest update from a Denver News source, all 140 Sports Authority stores, including Grand Junction, will be closed. 14,500 employees will be affected.

The news story goes on to say that the company has agreed to liquidate and sell off its assets. Sports Authority was searching for financial partners in order to keep those stores open, but could not come to terms with any lenders.

This will also affect Mile High Stadium or Sports Authority Field. The company has paid $16 million already for the naming rights and will need to make its next payment in August of $3.6 million.

If there is a positive side to this, look for huge discounts at the Grand Junction store beginning next week. Or check out the Sports Authority website.
