On Monday evening, May 11th at 7:30 pm in the Moss Performing Arts Center Robinson Theatre, CMU's Wind Symphony will present the final concert of the 2014-15 season. The symphony will feature two graduating seniors as soloists. Nick Gledhill, horn, will perform "Pele" by Brian Blamages, which is a tone poem inspired by the Hawaiian Goddes of Fire of the same name. Cody Krieger, tenor saxophone is featured on the first movement of Bob Minter's concerto for tenor saxophone and band entitled "Go!".

The concert will open with Joseph Wilcox Jenkin's famous work, "American Overture" for Band, featuring the horn section of the CMU Wind Symphony.  Also on the concert is a newer piece entitled  "Foundry" by John Mackey.  This piece features the percussion section, and they are instructed to "find" percussion instruments with certain sounds.  Specific instruments are not indicated in their parts; only certain types of desired sounds are indicated.

Lastly, the band will perform Eric Whitarcre's "Seal Lullaby", which was originally a piece for choir inspired by Rudyard Kipling's poem "The Seal Lullaby" from his story "The White Seal".  The CMU Wind Symphony is on the consortium that enabled Whitacre to transcribe this piece for band.

Tickets are available by calling the Box Office at 970-248-1604.
