What is Steampunk? Learn more about this popular sci-fi subgenre with a film and panel discussion set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Mesa County Libraries Central Library, Fifth Street and Grand Avenue.

The movie “Van Helsing” (rated PG-13) will be shown, followed by a panel discussion about Steampunk by local authors Sherry Ficklin, Shay West, and Captain Bill from the Grand Valley Steampunk Society. Seating will be limited to the first 120 attendees. The movie and panel presentation are open to the public at no charge.

This event is a prelude to the “Steampunk Convention with a Twist,” which starts Sept. 26 in Grand Junction.
