DA Announces Decision In Grand Junction Police Shooting

Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein stated Monday that no charges will be filed against Grand Junction Police Officer Corporal Ryan Piotrowski.

This all stems from the incident September 4 at a Grand Junction trailer park on 28 1/2 Road where Corporal Piotrwoski shot and killed Simon Gomez. The officer stated that he believed Gomez was going to harm or even kill children that Gomez was holding at knife-point.

District Attorney Rubenstein also stated that this decision was based on statements and testimony given by Piotrowski, other officers on the scene, witnesses and the children who were involved.

Gomez had been found to have alcohol and meth in his system at the time of the incident. He died of a gunshot wound to the chest and the head.
