You Have a Chance to Design Colorado Driver’s License
Take a look at the back of your Colorado driver's license or ID card. Can you design something better? Here's your chance to do the artwork for the back of 2021 Colorado licenses.
Does the back of your Colorado driver's license look anything like the back of mine? Keep in mind my card hasn't been "physically" renewed in almost 10 years. Unless they've come out with something new since then, the back of the Colorado driver's license is nothing to get too excited about. For that matter, the front isn't anything to write home about, either. Heck, it has my ugly mug on it.
The Colorado Department of Revenue Division of Motor Vehicles launched the Iconic Colorado contest, an artwork contest aimed to transform the current Colorado driver license, identification card, and instruction permit into a "work of art."
If you are an artist and live in Colorado, this is for you. If you're an artist under the age of 18, you need parental consent. The winning artist will have their name and artwork featured on Colorado licenses and ID cards. The new design will be unleashed on the public in 2021.
What kind of "art" can you submit? Original artwork by the original artist can be submitted. This could include:
- painting
- drawing
- photography
- graphic design
- print-making
Works submitted for consideration cannot include "objectionable" material. This includes political material.
You can submit anywhere from one to three samples of artwork. You'll also need to fill out an entry form. Only digital/electronic files will be accepted. Are you ready for a little good news? Entries are free.
You don't have a lot of time on this one. Art submissions must be in by October 9, 2020. Up to ten finalists will be selected. Colorado residents will have a chance to vote on a final design for the front and back. With that in mind, it is possible this will result in two winners.
Let's say you win. What's in it for you? Your name will be mentioned in all media releases and social media posts from the Department of Revenue and the Governor's Office. In addition, your name, while almost microscopic, will appear on all Colorado identification credentials.
Imagine having your artwork featured on every license, ID, and learner's permit across the state of Colorado. Certainly, a great way to get your talent in front of the public. Again, the deadline is coming up, so get busy. If you're an aspiring artist or know one, this is the opportunity of a lifetime.
