If Grand Junction had a downtown business Hall of Fame, Brown Cycles would have been inducted the day they closed their doors. Now, after 26 years, the storefront at 549 and 555 Main Street is in for a major change.

The property sold on June 9 to local business owner Uwe “Trout” Kirch. He has plans to renovate the space and open a new downtown restaurant. Here’s what we know right now.

Think about the businesses that have come and gone in Western Colorado since the year 2000. Brown Cycles was an oasis in the high desert for anyone who wanted to buy or rent a bike, and if your bike got a flat tire, Brown Cycles saved you every time. Now, the former bike shop will be renovated into a new restaurant. The word on Main Street is that the restaurant will be called Valle di Dera.

Who Bought the Former Brown Cycles Building?

According to the Grand Junction Business Times, the June sale sent the property from The Maken Do LLC to the 549-555 Main Street LLC for $1,000,001. The sale was complete by the time Brown Cycles publicly announced their departure. The new owner, Uwe Kirch, who purchased Rockslide Brewery in 2024, is excited to add another downtown project.

Fans of Brown Cycles will be glad to hear Kirch plans to consider a beverage or dish at the new restaurant named after Chris Brown as a nod to the popular business. Rocky Mountain PBS ran a feature on Brown’s bikes, photos, and cycling memorabilia after the store announced it was saying goodbye. You can check it out here. The building will soon change dramatically, but a little piece of the bike shop might end up on the menu.
