That's the big question folks are asking about the new water system the City is installing, and we have the scoop for ya!

Most treatment facilities across the country use chlorine gas to disinfecting our water. But this gas is hard to store safely, and that's why the City of GJ's Water Treatment Plant is switching from chlorine gas to sodium hypochlorite.

This new system includes a new storage building at the water treatment plant to house the Sodium Hypochlorite Generation System.

This new treatment produces low concentration bleach to replace the gaseous chlorine as a disinfectant for drinking water and is not a hazardous chemical.

The Manage of our Water Treatment Plant, Mark Ritterbush says,

This is a safer way of treating water, it's exactly as effective, it's just a different method of producing the hypochlorite ion that disinfects the water.

The new system for disinfection should be online by the end of February and the answer is NO! Water customers will not notice a change in their water taste.
