Whether you like football or you don't, going to a D-1 college football game is an experience everyone should have at least once.

I went to my first big college game this weekend in Boulder, to watch the CU Buffalos. It was a fun experience that I wish I had given a chance years ago.

If you've ever debated on going to a college football game, or want to convince someone to go with you, here are some reasons to go to at least one.

  1. It feels like a professional NFL game, but much cheaper.
  2. The players all have so much to prove, so you will see outrageous and unique plays.
  3. They honor graduates. It is fun to see what people in your state have accomplished.
  4. The marching band. If you don't like football, watching them perform is enough. (Picture below)
  5. The stadiums are cool. CU-Boulder has an actual buffalo that runs through the field, and has incredible views of the mountains all around, for example.
  6. There is a huge sense of community among all ages. Alumni, current students, friends, grandparents and parents of the students, and people that just live in the town and love the school is all there to cheer them on.
  7. Stadium food. Nothing beats that unhealthy splurge for stadium food.
  8. Each school has a different tradition that is fun to watch and be a part of.
  9. The mascots are hilarious. This is another piece of entertainment that someone can watch if they don't like football. They're doing something the whole time.
  10. Tailgating is a must. Food and drinks are allowed on campus, and friendly strangers all around. Get there early and make a day out of it.

Have you ever been to a D-1 football game? What was your favorite part?
