Happy National Frappe' Day! First question: What is a frappe', and have you seen one lately? Second question: Where will you find Grand Junction's finest?

I'm embarrassed to say this, but I haven't a clue what a frappe' is. Is it possible I've been enjoying them all along and didn't even know it? It seems so.

According to Merriam-Webster, a frappe' is defined as:

  1. a partially frozen drink (as of a fruit juice)
  2. a liqueur served over shaved ice
  3. a thick milkshake

Okay, so I may have enjoyed examples of 1 and 3 at some point in the past. It's not entirely clear what constitutes a distinction between "a partially frozen drink" and a smoothie. It seemed a trip to Starbucks was in order. When asked about coffee flavored frappe's, the clerk rattled off a list of about 30 different coffee and mocha frappe' selections.

Next, a trip to the 12th and North McDonald's. They have a long list of frappe's as well. The same goes for Gelu at 12th and North. In all cases, it seems frappe's run in the $2 to $5 range.

At present I have yet to try one of these. When I get off work tonight, assuming you can call this work, I think I'll stop by and get a frappe'. What do I have to lose besides $5?

Since I'm a frappe' virgin, perhaps you can point me in the proper direction. Where's the best place to go in this town for a delicious frappe'?
