Where in Grand Junction Can You Have These Made?
I swear to you, I've never seen one of these before. Near as I can tell, bakers simply refer to them as "Cupcake Cakes." Where in Grand Junction can you have one made?
This "cupcake cake" was served last New Year's Eve at a retirement party. Until then, I had never heard of such a thing. It's exactly as it sounds - a cake made up of dozens of cupcakes. A layer of frosting then covers the entire thing. After that, it is decorated, and if you desire, and depending on the bakery, a photo can be added.
I asked one of the people at the party where the cake came from. She said it came from the Safeway bakery on Horizon Drive. Upon speaking to one of the bakers at Safeway, it was learned this is something they do all the time. Seriously... I've never seen on in my life. Then again, I don't get out much.
This is the way to go. The next time you're planning a party, you might be wise to pursue this option. Okay, so I'm making a huge deal out of nothing. Then again, this solves a number of problems. Here are a few benefits (in my opinion):
- You can build the cake out of a variety of flavors of cupcakes. The cake above had both chocolate and white cupcakes.
- You can use a few, or a ton, of cupcakes, depending on the size of cake you need
- They can be arranged in patterns other than square or rectangular
A few calls were made. It seems most Grand Junction area bakeries consider these a typical, everyday sort of thing. The clerk at Cakelady Creations in Grand Junction says she makes them all the time. She did request orders be placed with a couple of weeks notice. A call was placed to the Baker's Boutique, and they said the same thing; they do these all the time. In their case, they requested a few days notice. Another call was placed to Homestyle Bakery, and sure enough, they do these frequently.
The next to you plan a party or event, consider taking this route. It's very cool, and the benefits are many. I haven't a clue how it is I've never seen one before. Apparently, just about every bakery in town makes these. When it comes to price, it seems they're really no more expensive than a boring ol' cake. Give it a try.
