Raising chickens in your backyard is a growing trend across the U.S., and it's causing neighborhood disputes and unwanted smells!

Here on the Western Slope we're acclimated to having animals of all kinds in our neighborhoods! Heck I've got a horse & several chickens next door to me and one of my friends lives next to a field of goats and we're both in subdivisions.

However as more people move into our city from more urban settings some are complaining that the birds can be noisy, messy & smelly!

As a matter of fact I got an email from Tara that says,

Hey Mack! We just moved here from Arizona and LOVE your show! I know people email you with dilemmas sometimes and you ask listeners for feedback so I thought I'd see what they have to say about my problem . . .

We just recently purchased a home in a nice neighborhood, and our only problem is: our neighbor raises chickens.

I'll be honest I was surprised that people in residential areas were allowed to raise chickens with neighbors so close by . . .

Not only do the Roosters crow at all hours of the day; most notably when the babies sleeping, but the hens cluck non-stop and the smell of their coop fills OUR backyard with such a stench in the middle of a HOT day that I can't even let my kids play outside!

I would like to talk to my neighbors about this issue but I'm not sure how to handle this. Have any of your other listeners ever lived next to people who had chickens? Did it cause a riff between them?

Give this gal some feedback by placing your comments below for me to read on air!
