GUNNISON, Colo. (AP) — Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials say they have euthanized a bear that killed about 40 chickens near Paonia.

Wildlife officers say owners of small livestock should secure their animals in sturdy enclosures at night, dusk and dawn to protect them from bears but also mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes and raccoons.

The warning comes as more residents, including in cities, raise chickens.
