You may have seen things floating around on social media or heard friends or co-workers talk about it - and perhaps you have never even heard of TEDx Grand Junction.

It's quite possible you have run across a TED Talk on television. You may or may not have chosen to stay on that channel to see exactly what was going on and to see what the person talking had to say, but these events happen all around the country.

Believe it or not, TED Talks have been around since TED began in 1984 with a conference on Technology, Entertainment, and Design. TED is a non-profit non-partisan organization that encourages the sharing of ideas while facilitating discussion on a wide range of topics.

TEDx Grand Junction happens on March 9 at the Avalon Theatre. More than a dozen different speakers will each present their particular message in 18 minutes or less. All of the presenting speakers have auditioned for this opportunity so there's a good chance each talk will be engaging,  interesting, and informative.

Here are some of the topics to be discussed.

  • A man who made a dramatic recovery from a traumatic brain injury
  • A discussion on the problem of attempted suicide
  • Growing up with a racist father and breaking the cycle of what we have been brought up in
  • A drug smuggler's daughter and 3rd generation skydiver who followed her heart to an incredible life

Anyone can attend this daylong event, but you will have to get a $49 ticket. After February 28 the price goes up to $59. You can find tickets online.
