The Grand Junction Police Department is currently on 'Accident Alert' status following last night's heavy snowfall. What exactly does that mean?

According to a post on the Grand Junction Police Department's Facebook page, in the event you should be in a non-injury accident in Grand Junction or the surrounding areas, you and the other party or parties involved should exchange information, and report to law enforcement within 48 hours.

Put simply, law enforcement does not have the bodies needed to respond to all accidents following the recent snow. Does this work? In my experience, yes. I was witness to a non-injury accident on the 5th Street Bridge in Grand Junction two years ago, at a time when "Accident Alert" was in effect. Parties involved were unharmed, and damage to vehicles was so minor all parties were able to drive away from the accident. Those involved exchanged information, specifically names, phone numbers, and insurance info, and then went their separate ways.

Please take it slow. Four-Wheel-Drive does not mean Four-Wheel-Stop. As of 9:00 am Monday, most major streets have been plowed, but hardly any side street have been cleared. In the event you're involved in a non-injury accident, please exchange information, and contact law enforcement within 48 hours.
