We've been singing about figgy pudding for years, but I wonder how many of us have actually ever eaten it?

The song is "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" and we sing the words "now bring us some figgy pudding and bring it right now." It goes on to say "we won't go until we get some......."  Who are these people that are so desperately craving figgy pudding?

Until today, I was a figgy pudding virgin. Not once had my lips tasted of the pudding made of fig. It hasn't necessarily been a choice, I simply believe I have never been afforded the opportunity to partake.

So, a year ago, I decided to take the plunge and experience figgy pudding. I searched locally and could find none. I went online in search of this delicacy, but everywhere I went "SOLD OUT". Are you kidding me? You mean, people are actually eating figgy pudding? Who are these people??

Well, I found some at a store in the UK, and placed my order. I paid $15  for 9.7 ounces of figgy pudding. Unfortunately, my package did not arrive until after Christmas, at which point, I was no longer in the mood. Consequently, for a solid year, this tub of figgy pudding has been setting on my desk waiting to be eaten.

So, now the time has come for me to try it. The ingredients include brown sugar, wheat flour, ginger, cinnamon, currants, and diced figs. The label says it's suitable for vegetarians, which was a big, fat red flag for me.

I wanted to capture this historic event on video, and that's what I'm sharing with you today. The first, last, and only time in my life I will ever eat figgy pudding.

What I can tell you is that it wasn't very good at all.

Now, as write this, I'm trying desperately to get the awful taste of figgy pudding out of my mouth. I suppose I have eaten worse-tasting things in my life, but this is going to rank right up there. I think I would rather eat a peanut butter and mushroom sandwich laced with mustard, relish, and olives than take another bite of figgy pudding.

Of course, maybe the fact that it was a year old had something to do with how horrible it tasted. Ya' think? Still, I'm pretty sure figgy pudding is not something I want to be putting in my mouth again anytime soon.
