For the second straight year, veterans will enjoy free admission to Colorado State Parks during the month of August.

Veterans and active-duty personnel -- including reserve and National Guard members -- can get the month long pass at any Colorado Parks and Wildlife office. The hang-tag pass is valid when it's hung from the rear view mirror and admits the veteran and all occupants of the vehicle.

Acceptable identification includes:

  • Active or retired military identification
  • DD Form 2
  • DD Form 2765
  • DD214
  • Veterans Affairs Medical Card
  • A current Colorado Driver’s License or state-issued identification card with the veteran seal printed on it.

While park entrance fees are waived, activities like fishing and camping will still be subject to normal licenses and permits.

The Colorado legislature enacted the free month during last year's session and the free month is scheduled to continue from year to year as long as the general assembly appropriates the necessary funds.

It is a great way to show appreciation to our military families and to allow them to enjoy Colorado's beauty at a reduced cost.
